Basis of the edition

The present edition is based on the photographs available at the Mainzer Photoarchiv of the Hethitologie Portal Mainz, as well as the available hand-copies and relevant secondary literature up to 2019. When the original manuscripts have been collated, this is noted in the commentary.

Commentary

The treatment of the Storm god of Nerik, Zaḫpuna and Kantipuitti shows that the geographical setting of this inventory is in the northern districts, perhaps in or around Kaštama. On Kantipuitti see commentary on KUB 38.14 i 7-8.

obv. 2′-3′: In this paragraph, the cult image of the Hattian goddess Zaḫpuna is described as a golden female statuette, beneath her there is “her mountain,” i.e. her spouse, mount Zali(ya)nu.

obv. 6′: The DN at the end of the line seems to refer to the mountain-god who is said to be manufactured, and possibly stand beneath the cult image of the Storm god of Nerik. Only traces of two Winkelhaken or horizontals are visible on the photo (drawn as horizontals in the copy). The sign may be read perhaps as E or TE. Van Gessel 2001: 480 suggests it may pertain to Tenu (vizier of the Storm god of Aleppo), but this is uncertain.
